Inline Four now offers MAHLE-CLEVITE High Performance Connecting Rod Bearings for your B16A, B18A/B, B20B and B18C engines. These bearings are produced by MAHLE corporation and are nothing short of excellent, exactly what you would expect from the engineers at Mahle. These bearings were developed primarily for use in NASCAR type racing, due to the high-stress environment the engines are put through, which also make them a shoe-in for Honda's high revving B-series engines.
Unlike the older "Clevite 77" engine bearings that you may be familiar with, the Mahle-Clevite "H-Series" rod bearings are a "tri-metal" design. They have a medium level of eccentricity, high crush, hardened steel back and thin overlay. Mahle-Clevite H-series rod bearings also have enlarged chamfers for greater crankshaft fillet clearance and are made without flash plating for better seating.
Mahle-Clevite H-series connecting rod bearings are available for the following Honda engines: B16A, B17A, B18A/B, B20B, B18C in STD or .001 extra clearance. Mahle-Clevite H-series rod bearings with .001” extra clearance are available for standard size crankshaft journals and carry the suffix HX” (X = extra clearance).
Main bearings are not available for the Honda engine by Mahle-Clevite. Inline Four uses ACL Race bearings for the mains and the Clevite H-series or OEM Honda for the rods.
