  
Whenver the oil pick-up or strainer is removed from the engine, you must replace this gasket. Sometimes you may only need to replace this one gasket and don't want to buy a bottom-end gasket kit just for one gasket. When would you need to replace only this? Well, aside from the oil pan gasket, whenever, we get a used engine, we will take off the oil pan and the components beneath it, and inspect the main and rod bearings. The oil pick-up/strainer must be removed and replaced during that process.
