What are you talking about, you must be thinking? The latest changes in API SL and SM specifications for automotive oils were based on improving emissions, NOT wear protection or performance. The American Petroleum Institute has lowered the levels of Zinc, BIGTIME! Zinc is a crucial anti-wear and anti-weld agent in your oil. Since the levels of Zinc were lowered, oils drastically loss their ability to protect. Our emissions improved by utilizing oils with less Zinc, but to those "in the know" many oils became less and less desireable. ZEP containes an enhanced version of Torco MPZ that directly addresses the zinc levels in today's motor oils. Torco MPZ, a perfect balance of zinc, phosphorous and molybdenum, is a friction fighting chemistry that adds wear protection back into motor oils. ZEP is an excellent choice for engine break-in and can be added to any oil to provide extra wear protection.
