Ever since Rudy Falcon's RSX graced the pages of a few import performance publications, the GOLD fever hit as if it was 1848 again when James Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's Mill, which set off the California Gold Rush! Well Rudy himself set off a little gold plating rush. Pictured above is a set of TWM Individual Throttle Bodies. This particular customer wanted the entire set of ITB's plated, along with a few other bits-n-pieces shown below.
The process of pure 24-karat gold plating is very labor intensive and time consuming. First the item(s) must be disassembled (if needed) and fully hand-polished. From here the item(s) are "dipped" into a tub of electrically charged pure 24-karat gold. The item(s) are set in the liquified gold for a specified timeframe. Depending on the size and complexity of the item, this timeframe can vary. Once it is finished, the item(s) are once again fully hand-polished to a beautiful luster. If there are any imperfections in the plating process, the gold must be stripped and the process started all over again. Aside from the "bling" factor, gold plating also reduces corrosion.
Turn around time for gold plating varies, due to the complexity and the item(s) itself. Currently, our most popular items to plate are: valve covers, spark plug wire covers, valve cover washers, valve cover grommets, fuel rails, throttle bodies and intake manifolds.
